What a weekend of ups and downs for Sunshine and the team at Kokomo Speedway! After a few less than best performances in the first few nights of the annual Smackdown at Kokomo Speedway, one of Sunshine's favorite tracks, Friday night proved to be a pivotal turning point for the team. Qualifying started out great, but ended with a hard hit and a destroyed car. The team rushed to the aid of the car to make the repairs needed to get the car going for the rest of the night, and was quickly reminded how close knit the racing community is - and what "Racing is Family" truly means. Crew members from several other teams rushed to the aid of the TOPP Motorsports team to get the car squared around and ready to continue racing that night. We can't thank those teams enough for all of the hard work they put in to help us get the car repaired. The team was able to turn things around for the evening and kept the focus and drive going to cruise right in to victory lane, the very first win at Kokomo Speedway for Tyler and the team.
With the momentum from Friday night, the team was looking forward to a great shot in the Feature for the Smackdown Feature race on Saturday. The title of the race surely lived up to its potential with a few restarts in the final laps of the race, causing some major friction and increasing the adrenaline in the drivers to get to the checkered flag. On the final restart, Sunshine slid into first claiming his second win in two nights AND the Smackdown VI Championship!
The team debuted a brand new Gaerte by TOPP Engine from primary team sponsor TOPP Performance Race Parts in the Smackdown - and that award winning engine powered Sunshine and the team right into victory lane not once, but twice, during the Smackdown competition!
"This is really special for me and the team. I can't thank the team enough for all of the work that they have done and continue to do. We're really just excited to get this HUGE win in Indiana and to have it be at Kokomo Speedway, for me, is just the icing on the cake," said Tyler.
