What a weekend of ups and downs for Sunshine and the TOPP Motorsports team! Tyler and the team were feeling good about the car and the chance to get in victory lane after some great results from last weekend's racing. Friday night's race at I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Nebraska started out with a great qualifying round with Tyler ending up qualifying 7th. The team used that momentum from qualifying to get a first place finish in the heat race for Tyler. With the excitement building and a great position in the Feature race, Tyler dug in hard and moved up to the first place position - taking home his first victory in the TOPP Performance Race Parts 23c this season.
" Everything fell into place tonight," recalled Tyler in an interview with USAC. "We had a rough start, but we’ve really got it clicking here the last few races.”
With the first win under the teams belt, things were looking great when the team headed to Knoxville Raceway on Saturday, June 3. Tyler qualified 3rd and won his heat race, again, and the team was looking forward to sweeping the weekend's races. Unfortunatley, on lap 15 of the Feature, while attempting a pass for 3rd, Tyler took a series of violent flips in the car bringing out the red flag and ending the team's hopes at another win. Thankfully, the safety equipment in the car kept Tyler safe and he walked away unharmed from the incident.
The good news is we have some down time until the Eastern Storm hits on June 13 at Grandview Speedway, so we'll be working hard to get the car put together for the next week!
