With the World of Outlaws coming so close to town, Sunshine and the team couldn't resist running with the best of the best in our wing car! In the days leading up to the event, several questions arose about whether or not the event would go on as scheduled, with rain in the forecast for the evening. Fortunately, mother nature decided to cooperate and the fans came out in droves to see the "the best show on dirt" at Plymouth Speedway. The UMP Modifieds were also scheduled to race that evening, so we had a nice replay of last week with both of our drivers racing at the same speedway - which was also a nice birthday gift to our owner Kevin Birchmeier, who grew up and lives in Plymouth!
Qualifying with the outlaws went pretty good - with Tyler ending up 17th out of 29 cars. Heats didn't go as expected, and Sunshine finished 8th - transferring to the Last Chance Showdown for a shot at the Feature race. Tyler did great that race and placed 5th, so he transferred to the Feature starting from the back, with a 24th place starting position. The race was filled with some cautions and speckles of rain as the storms came into the area, but the race ended up finishing with Sunshine moving up 5 spots to the 19th position.
Dylan also had a good night with the UMP Modifieds on Friday, after some work was done on the car during the week after the mishap at Eldora on Saturday. He finished 4th in his heat race and went on to the Feature where he placed 14th!
Next up: Both cars are headed to the Dirt Oval at Route 66 for Opening Night on May 3rd!
